Julian Morgan (Principal) was called to the Bar in 1977 and then undertook twelve months pupilage at a specialist shipping chambers (the chambers of Mr Michael Mustill QC — as he then was — at 4 Essex Court, Temple), followed by a year at a Grenoble University in France. In 1979 he joined the FD&D department of The West of England P&I Club, where he worked until 1985 when he left to join Watson, Farley & Williams ( WFW ), solicitors. Whilst working there he re-qualified as a solicitor and was admitted in 1988. At the end of 1990 he left WFW to establish the shipping group at Edwin Coe, solicitors. On 31 March 2000 he left Edwin Coe to found Morgans.
